Electrical Safety
• Visually inspected • Physically checked • Tested
Purpose
Testing
What is a Safety Switch (RCD)?
In essence a safety switch continuously comparing the amount of current flowing through your premise’s electrical system to power appliances or devices.
If the current flow becomes sufficiently unbalanced, the safety switch quickly disconnect the electricity supply.
Testing of safety switches
Regularly test safety switches in a workplace to be sure the safety switches are working effectively.
Most Importantly – Keep a record of the testing until the next test.
There are two types of tests required to be sure the safety switch is working effectively:
- The manual push button (trip) test – the user can perform the manual push button trip test,
- The leakage to earth operating time test – using a RCD test instrument to test the safety switches tripping time.
Emergency lighting testing
The first thing to remember is that Australian Standards require Exit and Emergency lighting testing every 6 months
The lights must remain illuminated for at least 90 minutes running on battery power.
We can supply, install, as well as maintain and test Emergency and Exit lighting at the workplace across the South Brisbane area.
The purpose of Emergency and Exit lighting installation as well as the testing thereof is to:
- Immediately provide lighting when the loss of the general lighting occurs.
- This will allow a person to safely vacate a section or the whole building.
Test & Tag
We provide the safety inspection and testing of low voltage single and multi-phase electrical equipment.
This applies to equipment connected to the electrical supply by means of a flexible cord connected to a plug with pins designed to engage with a wall socket outlet.
Only equipment in-service at a place of work or public place, or offered for hire need to be test & tagged.
Who can test & tag electrical equipment?
- An electrician or a competent* person appointed by management.
- Management must take all reasonable steps to ensure that electrical equipment used in the workplace is regularly tested.
* Anybody that acquires the practical as well as theoretical skills through the following are allowed performing test & tag in Australia.
› Training (i.e. a test & tag course) › On the job experience › Qualifications › A combination of all
